ENCAUSTIC:

Encaustic is considered one of the most ancient painting mediums in the world.   It is a paint that is composed of beeswax, damar resin and pigments.

The world “encaustic’ comes from the Greek “encaustikos” “to burn in”, referring to the process of using heat to fuse the layers together.  It was notably used in Favyum mummy portraits in Egypt around 100-300AD. This technique was lost for hundred of years. It was re-discovered again in 18th century and it was reviewed in the twentieth century largely by Jasper Johns. Today, encaustic painting is experiencing revival.
Minimum 4 students are required to open the workshop.
Maximum 6 students will be accepted.
$ 125 + art materials/ per one day workshop.
$65 deposit is required to hold the spot.
The list of art supplies will be provided with the registration.
Dec. 3rd, 2011 Encaustic:  Intermediate
10:30 AM – 4:00 PM
This workshop is designed for students who already have the basic knowledge of encaustic techniques.  Every student will create artwork up to his/her own choice under supervision of the instuctor.  Constructive critique is included.
